Think genealogy is just dusty books and boring charts? Think again.
The current week's video is below. All Elite, Premium, and Genealogy Genie members are welcome to attend the weekly training and I'll make it as personal as you need to! For archived training and LIVE weekly coaching, get the membership HERE.
This training is a follow up from today's coaching session. The session itself was personal, so I recorded three tips that I gave the members as a follow up video. We covered how to get around paying for a newspapers subscription or any other 3rd party paid subscription outside of Ancestry) by using the tagging system in Ancestry. I also showed how to quickly add someone's parents, siblings, spouse and children and all the data for these - from another person's tree - without having to type everything out.
And finally, basic search tips (there are so many more tips we'll cover in other videos, but you'd be surprised how many people are intimidated by the results and don't know they can quickly refine using the sliders!)
Phyllis and I worked for 2 sessions to figure out how to transcribe a collection of handwritten documents, notes, and family bible pages. Learn what genealogy tools are implying versus what they can actually do, and when to leverage transcription tools to save time. We also covered some great Q&A toward the end. If you want personalized training like we do with Phyllis, attend the meetings!

For this week, our member Phyllis wanted to know how to upload photos and documents to her Ancestry database, tag people in the photos and add other information about the photos. Sometimes these trainings are shorter, but this one is over an hour because we explored more of the features than we had planned. The very first thing we did was change the gender for one of her ancestors, and I showed Phyllis two ways to do that. If you want personalized training like I do with Phyllis, attend the meetings!

This week's training takes us back to our member, Phyllis, who was trying to find story information on her great uncle who she was told was a Texas Ranger and in the original Border Patrol. We also covered tagging in Ancestry, a refresher on saving time on data entry, and how to change a profile picture. We worked on dialing down your search terms. Finally, we talked about what to do if Ancestry simply doesn't have the records you are looking for.

In this training, the Genealogy Genie works with a member to understand basic navigation of Ancestry.com. We start with how to share your family tree with others. Then, how to grab an entire family and add it to your tree (after verifying, of course!) without having to type in all the details. After those two tips, we dive deeper into research on this member's family, uncovering details she didn't know!!
